Treatment methods will vary depending on the type of infestation.  You will need a licensed inspector to determine the method that is best for you.

Fumigations:

Fumigations may be required to guarantee the entire structure is free of drywood termites.  The structure is covered to create a sealed environment and poisonous gas released.  The gas used will be Vikane active ingredient sulfur fluoride.  The gas is toxic while the structure is being fumigated, but once the property is cleared for re-entry there are no residuals left behind.  For more information see Services or call (626) 792-4154.

Localized Treatments:

Local treatments are designed to eradicate an infestation of a particular area.   They are not intended to work for the entire structure, however they can be performed in lieu of fumigation as a secondary method.  There two ways of locally treating drywood termite infestation.

  1. 1.Drill 1/8” holes into the wood  staggering every few inches trying to hit the tunnels they have made. Inject with Cy-kick active ingredient cyfluthrin.

  2. 2.Spray Timbor foam active ingredient disodium octaborate tetrahydrate on exposed, unpainted wood members.  You can also inject the foam into wall void or even beneath a slab for the treatment of subterranean termites.

Subterranean Termite Treatments:

There are a few ways you need to treat subterranean termites depending on the circumstances.

  1. 1.Treat the infested earth with a registered termicide.

  2. 2.Drill through the slab or concrete and pressure inject with a registered termicide.

  3. 3.Trench near the infested area and treat with a registered termicide.

Registered termicides for the control of subterranean termites:

    -Prelude active ingredient permethrin

    -Termidor active ingredient fipronil

-Timbor active ingredient disodium octaborate tetrahydrate

Other Treatments:

Treatment for other wood destroying organisms vary, however they are similar to the treatment of termites and the types of registered pesticides are the same.
